❌ Why Eisteddfods Didn’t Align With Our Values

We spent years competing at eisteddfods. We tried to make it work. But over time, it became clear that the traditional eisteddfod format clashed with everything we stood for.

• Competitions ran at bizarre hours with no regard for children's rest or routines — we’d sit in theatres all day for a 3-minute slot.

• No one clapped for anyone else. Other studios treated us like rivals, not fellow dancers. The atmosphere was tense, cold, and competitive in all the wrong ways.

• Some coaches were openly rude or dismissive. Others ignored us completely. We watched studio owners berate students backstage or make comments that undermined our young dancers.

• Most heartbreaking of all? We saw our students’ confidence suffer. They were comparing themselves to others, feeling like they weren’t good enough — even when they danced beautifully.

We started to ask ourselves: Is this really what we want for our kids?

And the answer was a loud, clear no.

🌍 Opportunities are incredible. Our kids can compete locally, head to State and Nationals — and even represent Australia at the World Championships in the USA. (And they have — we're so proud of our Bronze Medal Worlds team!) There is no glass ceiling.

We have preschoolers starting their very first jumps in pink pom poms — and we have young adults still pushing themselves on our Open teams. There’s a place for everyone, and that place keeps expanding as they grow.
